The Modern Ranch
A Boho-Contemporary Makeover for a 1950s Home
New homeowners Greg and Amber, a vibrant young couple, had just closed on their first home—a 1950s ranch with great bones and loads of potential. With a modest budget left after their purchase, they were seeking smart, intentional updates that would reflect their personalities while maximizing the flow and functionality of the space.
To create a more open-concept feel, the entry between the dining area and kitchen was widened, instantly transforming the layout into something brighter and more inviting. The interiors take cues from midcentury modern design, layered with touches of bohemian flair and moody, saturated tones—perfectly capturing Amber’s love for playful patterns and Greg’s preference for rich color stories.
Dining Room / The widened entrance into the kitchen opens up the space, enhancing natural flow and allowing guests to feel connected, whether cooking or entertaining.
Kitchen / Bold indigo cabinetry sets the tone, offering a fresh, stylish update while still respecting the home’s midcentury roots. Under-cabinet toe-kick lighting adds a subtle glow, offering function and ambiance after dark.
Living Room / A custom built-in bookcase seamlessly blends into the wall, while a floating hearth adds visual interest and bonus seating to the heart of the home.
Primary Bedroom / A statement wallpaper creates a playful focal point, balanced by a sculptural pendant that anchors the space with charm and sophistication.
